Wexler Flex One: Reader with flexible display

The Flex One of Wexler is not a me-too product: With its flexible e-ink display, it offers currently among e-book readers is a real selling point. The system developed by LG Display is based on the high-contrast E Ink Pearl, and is made of polymers, LG calls the technology "electronic paper display" short EPD.

The Russian electronics retailer is presenting the reader presented in June at the IFA to be particularly robust device and allows him, for example, before an audience fall to the ground or turn the display including housing perk in all directions. Thus does Wexler or LG at one of the most common defect causes of e-book readers: the rigid displays of Kindle and break down too quickly when they are without protection in a crowded backpack or constrained times can fall on the asphalt.

Not only the technology but also the housing design of the Flex One is unusual. To underscore the display properties Wexler has bent the front concave. In the area of the display housing is only very narrow 4 millimeters thin, the lower part with control buttons and electronics for about three times as thick. Through this disproportionate distribution of the weight and shape the unit is unusual for an e-book reader in hand. That could make up for the reading everyday but the light weight: The Flex One weighs only 110 grams, 60 grams less than the Kindle.

The display shows a good contrast and thanks to 1024 × 768 pixels to 6 inches diagonal sharper than most available Reader (212 dpi). The reader with 8 GB for a fairly large flash memory, can be expanded via microSD memory cards. Otherwise, the equipment is lean: A WLAN module for wireless purchase of books he has any more than a touch screen, the operation is done only using the mechanical keys. As e-book formats does the reader, among other Epub, PDF, DOC, HTML and TXT, but comes first reviews found not cope with the Adobe DRM copy protection - which could theoretically but in later via a software update.

Are the chic corrugated plastic back there in 5 colors: gray, black, pink, purple, red and blue. In Russia, the reader is already on sale in this country, the company seems as yet no distributor has found the device, which will cost 200 euros.
