Microsoft Office 2013 RT: compromising on ARM

In a lengthy blog post Microsoft's chief developers have announced some details about the Microsoft Office 2013 RT, so the upcoming office suite for Windows on ARM-based tablets, announced. Accordingly, the suite will be released in the Home and Student version and as their counterparts for Wintel PCs include the applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, but not Outlook, Access and Publisher. While building the ARM applications on the same code base as its PC models and also show nearly identical user interfaces, but some changes will get the user compared with conventional designs but felt - mostly in the form of missing features.

So it is, as the blog post gives just before the end, probably not be possible to include macros and add-ins, and all the features that depend on ActiveX controls are eliminated from well such as the playback of Flash- Videos in PowerPoint. Speaking PowerPoint: Here the developers have also removed support for "older media formats," but without explaining definitely for which.

Because Office 2013 RT has no desktop mail packages à la Outlook, you have to give within its applications, most of the functions for e-mail delivery

Sad to read the notes in particular the restrictions OneNote program, which is on record, according to the Blog ARM computers either audio and video content can still browse those and not even supposed to be able to take scans from an attached scanner. Even with the promised ability to import audio and video clips from other applications, the program should result in comparison to the PC version cut as disappointing as his namesake for the iPhone, Android and Windows smartphones, as well as for the Web.

Encouraging, however, that Excel RT is comfortable with the use pivot tables and charts, and that the ARM applications should always be in the picture about how their electrical base is connected to the Internet. If the software detects a volume-dependent cellular connection instead of a wireless network, it will probably reduce chargeable data transfers to a Minumum.

The office suite is only available as accessories for Windows-RT-alone devices and are not on sale. Matching devices will be shipped accordingly with pre-release versions of the suite. Buyer shall, as soon as the office is ready, come from November through an automatic free update to enjoy the final applications.
