Market research: Android and iPhone eliminate competition

Android and the iPhone dominates the smartphone business as never before. Together they now hold 85 percent of the global market, such as market research firm IDC found. Above all, Android is spreading and controlled in the last quarter, about two thirds of the market. Apple had a clear number two on the other hand can also springs. Overall sales rose in its class within one year by 42.2 percent to 154 million units.

The Android's market share jumped to 68.1 percent according to IDC, in the second quarter of 2012 from 46.9 percent year-ago quarter. Thus, overall, 104.8 million smartphones were sold with the Google system. From the strong sales results benefited primarily the hottest Apple rival Samsung, the 44 percent of all phones sold Android.

The market share of Apple's iPhone was within a year from 18.8 to 16.9 percent. However, many customers are waiting for the next generation iPhone which is expected for the autumn. According to IDC, Apple shipped the equipment to be stored while the prior-year quarter by nearly 28 percent of some 20 million to 26 million units - but growth remained behind the overall growth of the smartphone market. Apple is also trying to slow the rise of Samsung with patent lawsuits. Just a big process running in California.

Dramatically, however, is the decline in sales at third-placed RIM BlackBerry provider. Its market share fell year on year from 11.5 to 4.8 percent. Microsoft's Windows Mobile moved from 2.3 before to 3.5 percent and was able to show the greatest growth in deliveries - from 2.5 million units a year earlier to 5.4 million in the second quarter of 2012. Nokia's former number one, the Symbian operating system plays only a minor role, at 4.4 percent with 16.9 percent a year ago. In Linux, IDC recorded in the first place Samsung's Bada-house development. The Koreans and other manufacturers are focused on Android, which is why the market share of Linux systems is reduced.
