Study: 34 million LTE connections by 2016
The rapid expansion of mobile phone standards LTE in Germany is a recent study, is progressing rapidly. The number of mobile broadband connections will probably rise from 100,000 in late 2011 to 34 million end of 2016, said the association Bitkom said on Thursday. So then 41 percent of Germans would be supplied with a fast Internet access via LTE. Germany would therefore in Western Europe, where the share is on average 37 percent, held a top position.
The requirements of the Federal Network Agency have therefore not impacted negatively on the establishment of standards. In Germany had to commit to the network operator, before the metropolitan areas initially white spots in broadband expansion to include LTE. Which was widely criticized as a competitive disadvantage. In 11 of the 13 under-served states the requirements according to the Bitkom have now been met. In Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, according Agency stand the coverage imminent.
Being the largest brake Bitkom currently sees the slow processing of applications by the Federal Network Agency. Currently, there are delays in the approval of applications for upgrading existing mobiles using LTE. This delay the widespread introduction.
Basis of the projections is a study of the European Information Technology Observatory Bitkom out (EITO). After that, in the UK in four years, 39 percent of the connections go with LTE online, in Italy and 35 percent in France and Spain by 32 percent. In this country, LTE has benefited from the fact that the telecom companies have begun as early as 2010 with the expansion, said the Bitkom. By 2015, the network operators are likely to have spent up to ten billion euros in the LTE expansion.
