IFA organizers are expecting new records
Before the start of the IFA in Berlin on 31 August, the fair this year is also usual optimistic. In 2011 the exhibition was fully booked early on the Berlin, this time will be re-set in the leased area, announced IFA Director Jens Heithecker. Actual numbers he called not. And again around 50 percent more visitors from abroad are expected. Particular interest encounter "Smart TVs", so TVs that are connected to the Internet and control, for example, using a smartphone or tablet can be.
Focus is on the consumer electronics industry under considerable pressure. Heavyweights such as Sharp and Sony slid last deep into the red. Philips outsourced production and marketing of television into a joint venture. The production of displays for flat-panel TVs and monitors is expensive, but the sales were below expectations worldwide. At the same time the industry is raging a persistently tough price competition, which is very difficult for many companies.
TVs with improved technology and larger displays have traditionally been the flagship of the IFA. This year will have about LG Electronics and Samsung OLED TV in the luggage, but before the 55-inch model coming to the mass market, must at all factories are being built, and where there are the organic produce cost-compatible displays.
Major sporting events have brought the TV industry this year as always positive impulses, says the Society for Entertainment and Communications Electronics (gfu), which is also IFA organizer. In the first half of the current year, the supplier of televisions and projectors along with 3.1 billion euros achieved 13.8 percent more sales than the same period a year earlier, says the current "Cemix index", the gfu together with the GfK market research and created the National Association of Retail Technology (BAT) regularly
The industry will also benefit from the fact that even in times of tight budgets, consumers tend to forgo restaurant meals or on the car and on vacation to save as consumer electronics. This resulted in at least a recent study of the dealer's sales organization Euronics.
Increasingly, however, the traditional flagship smartphones steal the show in the industry. According Cemix index the mobile rounders have not yet - as predicted by Euronics for the full year 2012 - suspended in sales the televisions. But with 2.9 billion euros, an increase of 31.3 percent over the first half of 2011, the move to smart phones televisions clearly on his heels.
While smartphones with Android and iOS now dominate the market, Microsoft is with Windows Phone 8 in the starting blocks. Microsoft partner Nokia has already for the 5th September, the last day of the IFA, the trade press was invited to New York. The ailing Finnish phone maker could get there before with the announcement of Windows smartphones Apple and its expected for the fall iPhone 5. It is conceivable that other manufacturers will take advantage of the IFA, in Berlin to present their smartphones with Windows Phone 8th
