Video calling with "Full HD Voice"

The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits shows in Hall 11.1 (level 10), as it imagines the future of video calling on the Smart TV: HD video and audio signals with "Full HD" voice. Is used which developed for real-time communication, fault-tolerant MPEG audio codec Enhanced Low Delay AAC (ELD-AAC), which at data rates down to 24 kbit transfers / s the entire audible spectrum up to 20 kHz in near-CD quality, while taking calls is usually in bands around the circuit around 3 kHz. Serves as the basis of the presentation of the EU project Vconect which will allow "high-quality audio-video communication between groups of people in real time".

So far, the superior audio quality of AAC-ELD high-end video conferencing systems is reserved, thanks to the AAC-ELD software from Fraunhofer IIS could be quality measure now transferred to Smart TVs, said Harald Popp, head of the Multimedia Realtime Systems IIS.

Incidentally, since iOS 4 supports Apple's mobile operating system, the codec, since Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is AAC-ELD also part of Google's operating system.
