Acer's profit decline

The Taiwanese computer maker Acer has released its preliminary financial results for the second quarter of 2012. The net operating profit before tax increased by 213.5 percent from 138 million Taiwan dollars (4.7 million U.S. dollars) in the first quarter to 14.48 million U.S. dollars in the second. The net operating profit after tax declined in the same period from 11.2 million to 1.87 million U.S. dollars. Acer justified the decline with a one-time tax payment in the amount of 13.71 million U.S. dollars, which was to be paid in Europe.

Group sales increased compared to the second quarter of 2011 by 8.3 percent, fell from first to second quarter of 2012 but up 2.2 percent to 3.7 billion U.S. dollars. Acer said this with a slowdown in the global PC market and adverse economic conditions in different regions, which led to sagging sales. The message is clear, moreover, that Acer will begin in August and September for the launch of Windows 8 with the delivery of compatible devices. The manufacturer hopes to increased revenue for the third quarter.
