Twitter: Developers complain insecurities

The short message service Twitter wants to tighten its platform rules. In future, users should get a "consistent experience" to see. In plain language this means that as many users to use the service directly via Twitter deals, where can be switched to advertising. Currently is not yet in sight, just like the platform will change. Start-ups and investors in the Twitter environment are still nervous, Technology Review reported in its online edition.

The uncertainty is already leading to economic losses, such as the long-time Internet entrepreneur Nova Spivack says. His latest start-up, Bottlenose, is building a product that allows users to find interesting news, the importance of which is determined by activities in different social networks, including Twitter. "There are many companies that restrict their activities and ask yourself how it goes." This policy of Twitter was "irresponsible."

Spivack has contacted Twitter, how it goes, but received no response. From other start-ups like he heard, first firms had problems even to collect fresh money. For this reason, Spivack is now launching a petition. "Twitter needs to keep his promise to remain an open platform." At least the company must make their intentions clear to the developers.

A less open Twitter could harm innovation in the social networking area. "If you will not come to the data, are the things you can do with the service, much less interesting," says Ed Finkler, developer of an open source client for Twitter, which has stopped working on it now. Twitter's new rules would have spoiled him.
