Typo3 6.0 appears outmoded core

Typo3 is released in a new version, the version skips a step. Version 6.0 is the well-known and much used content management system further, while the parallel-developed Typo3 Neos was written from scratch based on the experience with Typo3. Neos has long since called Typo3 5.0, the new version of the traditional branch is now 6.0 Typo3.

Feature of the new version is the new "File Abstraction Layer", to which it should be possible to store files such as images once - and still be referenced in several posts. Already have connections to cloud storage services such as Amazon S3, WebDAV, and created so that the dropping of files in parallel to TYPO3 on the webserver is no longer necessary. Other drivers, such as Dropbox, are developed according to TYPO3 Association spokesman Søren Schaffstein currently.

Also at the core of the system, the developers have done a lot, explained Schaffstein. New quality assurance guidelines were introduced so that every line of new code will be extensively tested. "The TYPO3 Extension Manager was based on Extbase developed from scratch," said Schaffstein. PHP namespaces are introduced and the class names have been renamed consistently.

Neos with Typo3 and Typo3 Flow has expanded his repertoire. Flow is a PHP framework that builds Neos as a CMS on it. "That is for projects that have more web application character and benefit from a CMS component, Neos is currently interesting," said Schaffstein. The two CMS would still exist at least three years together. Neos will be quite some time before it can replace Typo3. It will, however, work on the functionality. And whether it will replace the CMS then, was not yet sure. "Specifically, we do not assume that Typo3 CMS is released in the next 3 years by Neos. We rather expect that the systems complement each other and inspire," said Søren Schaffstein.
