Microsoft raises prices for corporate licenses

Microsoft increases by 1 December, the prices of certain software licenses in the corporate environment. Thus fits the Group's pricing models primarily to the changing usage patterns of mobile devices. However, prices for a number of Office server products Microsoft wants some increase sharply, the Microsoft expert on Mary Joe Foley says in a blog post. For example, the office software office in different versions will be more expensive the subscription fees in the online versions sink it. Microsoft seems to be trying to persuade its customers, instead of buying fixed software to complete rather Subscriptions appropriate for cloud services, writes Foley.

Of the increases in the volume licensing companies are even more affected, in which employees use multiple mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, says Foley. To date, the license costs for the device and user-based licensing models were at the same height. When user-based model, according to Foley from December the prices now attract 15 percent.

So Microsoft would earn even when a company employee with access to Apple devices (iPhone, iPad) or Android smartphones and tablets on a Microsoft Exchange server. In the past, the price of the so-called user client access licenses (CALs) and Device CALs were equal in general. The user-based licenses have Microsoft advertised as the best solution for companies whose employees use multiple devices. The Device CALs are opposed cheaper for enterprise customers, their workers, for example, sharing equipment.

With the new price adjustment reflecting the company increased the value of these licenses, Microsoft explained the increase requested by Foley. Customers with volume licenses for the time being, however, had no need to worry, says Foley. For them, the current prices are valid until the expiry of the contract. Customers who currently are considering the purchase of software licenses, but should clarify in advance how they might avoid corresponding price increases.

Meanwhile, also clarified that the price increases for CALs also apply to the German market. Even mid-November, Microsoft held on this issue covered to heise resale.
