Linux distribution Slackware 14.0 is ready
17 months after the 13:37 Slackware developers have now released version 14 of Linux distributions officially. Compared to its predecessor, the new version of the oldest among the still maintained Linux distributions much fresher ingredients, including including a recent long-term kernel based on Linux 3.2, GCC 4.7, glibc 2.15, the X Server 1.12.1 of X. org, Perl 5.16.0 and Xfce desktop interfaces 4.10 and KDE 4.8.5.
Other updated packages include Firefox and Thunderbird, which is now version 15.0.1 currently. The Java Development Kit (JDK) 6 had on the basis of license agreements of Oracle on the other hand are removed, so now the distribution does not ship Java environment more. All changes can be found in the changelog. Compared to the recently published Voarbversion the developers still have numerous errors ironed out.
The Slackware distribution includes six CDs (32-bit only) or a double-sided DVD, at the 32 - and 64-bit versions are included. The images can be downloaded here.
