Google is infringing Skyhook patents for position determination


The company Skyhook Wireless Inc. sued Google because the search engine and Android manufacturers allegedly nine patented technologies of the provider of wireless location data illegally exploited. It is the second time that Skyhook Google pulls into court, because two years ago, there were patent disputes around the positioning using wireless information. Eight of the patents at issue Skyhook now since the last court transitional get issued as patent observer Florian Mueller wrote in his blog, Engadget has published the 28-sided application.

Among the disputed patents for geolocation are several methods to detect based on GPS position information changes of wireless access points. Two others deal with the estimation of the position based on the Wi-Fi signal quality.
