Microsoft plans faster updates for Visual Studio 2012
At the official launch event for Visual Studio 2012, Microsoft introduced several new features, the company had probably saved up for lining the show yet. Essentially, these are a few missing toolsets more National Language packs and an outlook on the future and additions coming soon release policy.
The Express family with the freely available specialized and stripped in some respects, Visual Studio versions is completely ready now. With Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows desktop applications, can now also for the classic Windows desktop, free to create in C #, VB.NET and C + +. Visual Studio Express 2012 for the web tools for functional programming language F # have been added. They are installed using the Web Platform Installer and expand the IntelliSense support for accessing data structures in SQL databases and Webdatenprotokollen by provider type. The mechanism can be extended by user-written provider.
One way to have Visual Studio to enrich the features that Microsoft for a new version could not finish in time, were already far supplement packages that were submitted later than the Visual Studio Gallery. A first such package is now available with the TFS 2012 Power tools to retrofit the templates for project management methodology Kanban, powerful backup tool, a process template editor and extensions for both Windows Explorer and PowerShell. For October, the successor of the Productivity Power Tools is provided - which features the VS2010er output are now largely incorporated into the new Visual Studio.
Although the development for Windows Embedded Compact is already supported by Visual Studio 2012, but with the next release scheduled for early 2013, further improvements and enhancements are added.
No more than "service pack" rather than "Update 1" is the next major maintenance of Visual Studio are published. With these updates, Microsoft wants to increase the density of releases between major versions, to respond to short-term emerging trends in software development. A preview version of the first update to be published in September 2012, the final release later this year. For example, extensions are provided for agile teams in the TFS area and continuous quality assurance for SharePoint and Windows projects.
Should be lifted at last, as requested by the community, the limitation to 260 characters in file paths that had been done regularly to difficulties in version control. However, the barrier is initially increased only to 400 characters, which is evidently a result of a limited field length in SQL Server index.
CodeMap comes with a completely new feature added in the architectural tools. Thus, should an architectural or dependency graph can expand incrementally, while you're exploring existing manually starting from a single class or method code. These are to be displayed on request derived classes or all referenced methods.
Visual Studio 2012 is ready
The wait is over, at least for owners of a MSDN subscription. These can now download Microsoft's new Visual Studio development environment 2012th What variants and tools are available on the first thrust, leading to the chart below. However, the full extent of the download offers only subscribers with a so-called Ultimate subscription available that offers the less-equipped subscriptions are reduced accordingly. To everyone and free of charge, Microsoft offers the Express editions.
In addition to many improvements (and also with respect to the optic Verschlimmbesserungen how many developers after the previews and the release candidate Mine) is the support for the development of "modern applications" in the foreground. On the one hand, the focus on apps for the equally new operating system Windows 8 and to building modern web applications using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The "catalog" of innovations is a mile long, so is only briefly summarized the key changes.
The new WinRT environment as a platform for mobile and compact, "modern" apps (previously under the working name of Microsoft Metro out) is supported if Visual Studio is installed on a system running Windows 2012 or Windows 8 Server 2012. Apps may be created in JavaScript using HTML5 and CSS as well as XAML-based (Extensible Application Markup Language) in C + +, C # and Visual Basic.
Concise ester aspect of the development against the WinRT is required in many parts of asynchronous programming the operating system functions. The WinRT itself is internally designed to be relatively Hardware related, but this completely abstracted so WinRT applications can run on both devices, the Intel platform and on ARM devices. Visual Studio 2012 comes with the app development tools and components of templates on debugging aids to simulators, the palette.
C + + developers to benefit primarily from improvements in the editor. Both highlighting and IntelliSense support and code snippets do the job much easier. Now supports is also the last year shared C + +11- standard.
Even the writing of JavaScript code has become much more comfortable because JavaScript is for Windows-8-apps mutated into a first-class language in the Windows world. It supports ECMAScript 5 and DOM with HTML5 IntelliSense statement completion, highlighting, formatting aids, jumps to some other definitions and more. Can also be involved "foreign" libraries.
For C # and Visual Basic is reported that with the new Async feature writing asynchronously execute code much easier. Easier For Each loops, iterators, call hierarchy and Global Namespaces give beyond the VB world new "feed".
Also, in recent versions of VS constantly growing ALM sector has increased. Backlog, sprints and tasks can be managed in Agile tools, tools for stakeholders and storyboards help organize the work in a team as well as the built-in integration with Microsoft Project and Project Server.
Web development with ASP.NET 4.5 is also increased by several features. So still not so easily something goes wrong, ASP.NET applications can use earlier versions of the. NET Framework. The "traditional" web forms are not long "dead", but enjoy the care with advanced data binding capabilities and interaction with ASP.NET MVC applications, the generation of HTML5 and CSS3-compliant markup and praktikablerem dealing with JavaScript files.
The new Page Inspector provides a possible "life-like" representation already during the development process. IntelliSense and highlighting are also matured further, even in the renovated CSS editor, for example, can serve a practical color choice. A completely new "tool box" has been added with the ASP.NET Web API. It is primarily designed to provide both otherwise "living" web interfaces and devices, and applications of all types with communication capabilities over the Web.
