Samsung confirms high overtime in Chinese suppliers
Samsung has delivered to the Reuters news agency a statement of poor working conditions at its Chinese suppliers. Thus Samsung confirmed by our own investigations, that in some cases due to high product demand led to long hours. Some workers were paid by long shifts and weekend work up to 32 hours of overtime per week, with continued demand from it were sometimes 100 hours of overtime per month. The labor rights organization China Labor Watch (CLW) had earlier reported that some workers pushed daily 16-hour shifts - in just one day off per month.
Samsung manufactures claims to be more than 40 percent of its products in China, but relies primarily on its own factories and employees
: More than half of the more than 200,000 people are employed in the production and would produce about 90 percent of all products. Samsung would continue to produce most of yourself, because this is a competitive advantage for the company. Outsourced to external suppliers - just this is what the allegations - was merely the production of some components and the function of low and cases for mobile phones products.
Already beginning of the week, Samsung had said about allegations of CLW: The Koreans had thus confirmed violations of suppliers with Chinese law and in-house policies regarding overtime and punishment of employees. CLW has recently raised further allegations against Samsung Zulieferen, child labor is not, however, the speech.
