70% of teens connects at least two hours a day to Internet


Seven out of ten teenagers are connected at least two hours a day on the Internet, according to a study by a group of professors from the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC).

According to the study, led by Antonio García Jiménez, dean of that center, Internet use among children and adolescents starts between six and nine years, and males are more precocious in this activity than girls.

This study is based primarily on a survey of public and private schools of the Spanish peninsula more than 5,000 male and female students aged 12 to 17 years and enrolled in different levels of the ESO, which was selected to total of 2,077 for the final analysis.

The report notes that 90% of respondents have at least one social network profile, and 40% acknowledge that it would cost too much or they wouldnt let you connect to your social network every day, a hobby that worsens appreciably among younger than among boys.

This attachment to social networks is higher as respondents are older (15-17 years), who also exhibit superior adhesion to small exploration Youtube, in consultation content about sex, shop online or learn pages of beauty, fashion and the like.

However, among children 12 to 14 years there is an inclination to the daily practice of messenger and more likely to practice Internet gaming.

The frequency of use is also an important finding of the study, since 70% of teens said that connects all or most days, Monday through Thursday but most do it for just under two hours, reaching the end week almost three hours per day.

The study analyzes also control teens tax. In this case, is higher for girls than for boys.

At home, vigilance is exercised primarily by the mothers are the ones that ask more about their use of the Internet children and 16% are added to the social profile of their children, compared with 12.7% who occurs between parents.

However, such monitoring is primarily concerned with the frequency of use: mostly just to look and ask their children what they are doing when surfing or limit the time of use, and only a minority use access filters. Three out of ten teenagers said that their parents ever have told them about the risks of Internet or frequently warn them of the dangers.
